We are what we eat and we get what we give. It’s true. Hate the saying all you want but our bodies operate by breaking down the nutrients we put into them as fuel. As a mom of two toddlers, I am always on the go and my food choices lately are not all that great.
Prior to having kids, I was a work out and health nut fiend. I was never one to jump on any sort of fad diet or workout routine, I truly just lived life with a ‘ you get what give/put in ‘ sort of attitude. I worked out 4 days a week, ate foods in their most natural form when possible, and I didn’t sweat the weekend cocktails. I also didn’t have a pregnancy palette. A pregnancy palette is the term that I use to describe my taste buds gravitating towards all things sweet.
Fast forward to present day. I have 4-year-old toddlers and I am exhausted. Not because my kids don’t sleep, but because I have been running at full throttle since December 10th of 2013.
By the time I wake up, make coffee, feed my kids breakfast, brush their teeth, clean up breakfast and make a quick sweep through of the house it is time for whatever extra-curricular activity that we are signed up for. I often find myself running on 2 extremely large cups of coffee bolting out the door with a not so healthy breakfast bar, or bag of Annie’s Cheddar bunnies (uh!) to hold me over till lunch.
On the 3 days, a week that my kids attend school, I use the morning to clean up breakfast, make beds and do laundry. I choose one of the three days to grocery shop, one of the days for Seventh Bixel, be it a photoshoot or blogging, and another day to catch up on work appointments with clients or vendor meetings. Like any mom, my alone time is limited and the older my kids get, the busier I become.
Things weren’t always this crazy. When my kids were born, I had baby weight to lose. I sprung out of bed and ran several miles before they woke up and I worked out again in the evening when Mike would get home from work. I was motivated to get back to my ‘old’ self. I hadn’t yet launched Seventh Bixel so my days were filled with activities with my less than mobile tikes. I thought my days were crazy taking care of two babies, but little did I know that when they were less mobile it was much easier to take care of me. Hindsight.
My point in telling you all of this, is not to say how busy I am, because let’s face it, we are ALL busy. I decided that I have 2 choices. I can either use the 30 minutes I can find in the day to sleep in a little longer, hang out on social media or watch Bravo and feel like a less version of myself, OR, I can quit the excuses and make a lifestyle change.
In doing this, I have decided to hold myself accountable and add a health and wellness section to my blog. I have collaborated with Ximena Tuverson, a holistic and Functional Medical Nutritionist and K.C. Rawlins, a health and fitness expert and developer of the Booty Booster by Kurv Fitness.
I’ll be sharing nutritional and workout advice from our experts and hoping that together we can inspire accountability.
